What does “publish protocol” mean?
Protocols can be published as a template to the Protocol Library. Publishing protocols help you track changes while preserving previous versions. It also allows anyone in your team to re-use it in future projects and experiments.
There are two ways to publish a protocol. The first is from your experiment in a project; the second is from the protocol library directly. Keep reading to learn about the different workflows.
Publishing protocols from an experiment
When you start an experiment, you will have the option to publish protocols to Protocol Library.
Navigate to a draft experiment in Projects.
Once you are done drafting your protocol, press ‘start experiment’ on the top right corner of the screen.
In the modal, you can see all the protocols you drafted in this experiment. In the dropdown menu, select ‘publish new protocol’ for the protocols you want to publish to Protocol Library. Press ‘confirm’ to publish.
Publishing protocols from the Protocol Library
Navigate to Protocol Library in Projects, and create a new protocol by clicking ‘new protocol.’
Add and edit your protocol in the protocol editor.
Note: Did you know Genemod editor support real-time collaboration? Try it out by inviting your collaborators to the same document.
3. When you are satisfied with your protocol, press ‘publish this version’ on the top right corner.
That’s it! Your protocol is now published and ready to be used in any experiment. Keep reading to learn more about using and managing protocols.
How to use a published protocol
Use it in an experiment
Create a new experiment in Projects. Then, navigate to the ‘protocols’ tab.
In the text editor, select ‘templates from Protocol Library.’
In the modal, locate the protocol you need by using the search bar or filtering by labels. Click the protocol to preview.
On the top right corner of the protocol preview, click ‘Use this protocol’ to add a copy of the protocol to your experiment.
Edit the protocol in your experiment as much or as little as you want. When you publish it as you start the experiment, it will be saved as a new version to Protocol Library. Check out the section above, ‘Publish protocols from experiment’, to learn more.
